Hi everyone, I need some advice, I am looking to change the camshaft in my 440 but don't know what would be too big for my application. I have a 70 charger with a 727 and 3.23's and factory converter, maybe 2200 to 2400.

I was thinking of the comp hydraulic roller xr274hr but wonder if this would be acceptable for my power brakes and air conditioning.

I would like to get as close as I can to 500hp. I currently have a 9.5:1 compression 440, flat top pistons, factory magnum cam, edelbrock performer rpm, holley 670cfm holley, 906 heads and tti 1 7/8 headers.

Any and all suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

Don't know about that cam. Don't go to big or your heater AC blend doors will work at will, they open and close when they want too. I would rather use a milder cam and have my AC and power brakes work as they should.

There have been dyno tests showing that a stock 440 Magnum actually made a net flywheel HP of between 350 to 360. To get 150 more HP from the engine, you will need more than a camshaft change.

Lobe center of 110, you might be on the borderline. There’s add-on vacuum can reservoirs in the aftermarket.

No expert here, but I’d look into a custom grind with 112-113 degrees of lobe separation.

Thanks for the responses. I forgot to mention I have 440source heads. Yeah I think a custom ground hydraulic might be my only option if the xr274hr is borderline for power brakes and AC.

Most of these are so amazing.
