need some help getting my driveshaft into my gearbox (a833 23 spline/30 spline)

fully rebuilt my box even replaced the metal sleeve in tailshaft and tailshaftseal.

driveshaft is oringal and used to fit, but now i cant seem to get it in withoutbelting it in.

i look at end of tailsahft it has teeth all around it and inside driveshaft ithas a gap where no theeth ( i am thinking a locator or something)

anyone have any advice or had this problem before

thanks in advance

hmm no i did not as i ordered the one brewers sent me for my gearbox they verified by my numbers on the box, are they different sizes?

it was identical to the one i pulled out

I always check the bushing on the driveshaft before I intstall it . Just to be sure. You could still pull the rear seal to check the fit. And then replace the seal again , if its useable.

Sometimes it's a good idea to clean it up with an adjustable reamer, to be sure it's the right size.

thanks guys moght just pull the rear seal, the teeth shouldnt need a reaming as they fit a few weeks prior before the rebuild, will see how i go.

He didn't mean ream the teeth. THe bushing sometimes needs sizing. I've had good luck using a brake cylinder hone.

OK, sorry about asking these dumb questions.... just checking. Are your one-way/double splines lined up by rotating the driveshaft? Is there any "gunk" or rust inside the front driveshaft yoke? I had a similar problem a couple months ago and all it was was some surface rust on the female splines of the front driveshaft yoke. I thought I was losing my mind! A wire brush and a good shove and it went in. Good Luck!

well i had a look at brewers there is only 2 types of rear bushing, an early a body one and one for all others so i must have right one.
i might give it a clean and see what happens.

the one way double splines? so they do locate a proper way then, i will give it another go tonite.

That's a good point about the splines but I don't recall MoPars having that. Or let's say every time I put a drive shaft in it just went in the first time. When you put the bushing in how did you do it? Any chance you buggered up the end?
