Any Idea?

I've got a Ford steering column in my PT-105
that uses this ignition switch. Any guess as to
what the metal clip is for? Obviously, the harness
connector can't be installed with this in the way.

It's more than likely to hold the harness plug to the switch.

There are tabs on the side that hold the connector.

Yes, it's removable. Not loose. The switch on the
column has an indent in the base for the clip, but
no clip installed.

It's used to hold the plug to the switch. The plastic clips at both ends should be enough but if it becomes too hectic to install you could opt to leave it off. I looked at a couple Fox body videos and they were the same concept and you'll see the metal clip on the new switch but after installation the clip isn't there anymore. Example...

Hey, thanks for the research. There's no indent
or hole where the clip would hold the connector
(at least on the one I have). Could be it's used
on different models though, and is used to head
off past problems.
I could start another thread on present day
availability and shipping time. This took 15 days
before FedX rang the doorbell.

Is there? Cool, if true. There's a GM column in
my CJ7. Thru the build I've been trying to keep
the bloodline pure. It pains me to see a Chevy
engine in a '32 deuce coupe, same as giving in
to the greenies and sticking electric motors
in a '69 Charger. It just ain't right. But I do give
credence to those with the ability to do so.

The clip locks the switch on the spot where the key is removed from the cylinder... If you look at the mounting holes they are slotted a little allowing the switch some adjustment... You install the switch to the column with the key removed that way you know the cylinder & switch are properly adjusted... Then remove the clip and install the wiring connector..

Awesome. The switch came with no instruction as
to how to install. Your info is heeded, and
appreciated. I don't believe there's a question
that can't be answered on this site. Great bunch.
