Yep thats the one, Good deal it was on the price.

Hey, yeah, sorry I beat you to it man! Got them to go down on the price as well, and paid in cash. They do still have the original motor for that charger. It has a 440 in it, but it's numbers-matching 383 is still in their garage if anyone is interested.

Man you got him even lower? Better deal then I thought :D
Post some picks when you peel that roof ( And work ), Interested to see what it is.

Yeah, will do. I'm out of state (Brooklyn, NYC) right now, and the Charger is at my dad's, covered in snow I'm sure. Kills me to not be able to see it! But I must have patience.... Winter sucks!

Yeah, I couldn't believe the deal I got on this car!!! Super excited. (I'm a young guy just starting out, so saving money is much appreciated.) The sellers didn't really know what they had--it was a family friend's, who passed away and they were selling the car for his "estate" if you will. They just thought they had a "fast car" on their hands.

Why would you not also pickup the original numbers matching 383 that goes with the car? That should help the value to keep them together even if its not in the car.

Well, yeah, that would make sense wouldn't it. I dunno. I was trying to get a deal going. The $8k was with the original motor included. I wanted to pay less than that... I didn't see myself ever taking out the 440 and putting in a 383. And I don't really have anywhere to store the 383.

Yeah, this.

Unless they wanted some dumb amount of money for the original motor (doesn't sound like it since they didn't really know what they had) why not offer to leave the 440 and take the 383 for it?

The 383 will bolt right into place of the 440 and will make the car 'whole' again (too many are scattered to the winds)...my $0.02, go get that 383!!

Nice purchase by the way.

I know, I know. I plan on driving this thing though, and I've always wanted a 440 car. I don't want to leave the 440. Don't care too much about originality, but yeah, it would be good to keep the car and motor together, even if the motor sits in storage. What do you think a fair price would be for that motor?

Stay the course Jenkins, 440 is what you always wanted. ( Posters are correct, keeps the value up, mostly when it comes to sell the car.)
Just keep in contact with the fella off and on. You'll eventually come to a deal while fixing up that Charger with the 440.

I would go with the 383, originality is everything. There is other cars with 440's in it.

Maybe I'll go back and get that 383 in the future. Who knows. But I love the 71-72 b-bodies, had a 71 Satellite in high school with a 318 in it, swapped it out for a 360. Always wanted a 440 though.
Yeah, there are other cars with 440's, but ones with that low rust are hard to find within my budget. When I took the extra motor out of the equation, I was able to get the guy to go down to $5600. I'm 25 years old, I want to drive this car, the way I drove my Satellite, daily. I'm not really buying it as an investment, and I don't want to make it so nice that it has to sit in a garage. I'll take care of it and fix it up as I can, and try to keep it as original and period-correct as possible, just because I like that look. I want it to last, and I want to have fun with it. To me, a 440 is more fun than a 383. That's my vision. All said, I might buy the motor and put it in storage if the guy doesn't sell it. Thanks for the input!

440 will just eat your money in your wallet, I think I had more fun in my 71' 318 satellite than with the 440 in it

Isn't it a shame that youth is wasted on the young... :sad4:

I love your enthusiasm Nomax and I always like to see younger guys getting into the hobby, but you need to do whatever you have to to get that original engine or you will kick yourself later, trust me. :icon_study:

This hobby is expensive enough, you don't want to throw good money away too. You may not want that 383 now, but you will one day, or better yet someone will pay you handsomely for it tucked between the fender wells of that Charger.

Whatever you decide, nice score, and enjoy that fine piece of muscle car history!

what do you think I should offer the guy for that motor?

How much of a reduction from the original $8k did Y'all agree on? I thought I read on another thread where you paid $5,600.00 for the car ...

Yeah, got him down to $5600 if we took the extra motor out of the equation. He would not take my original offer of $6200 for it with the 383 included. So i guess to him the 383 is worth at least $600?
