Probably the most ridiculous request ever.... So a friend has a 69 Roadrunner he's trying to get licensed... California DMV has done their VIN verification, but in the course of that they did something I've never seen them do before, they checked for an emissions sticker & it was missing... Now they won't register the car...
In the check list to correct issues it states
"Customer can contact the manufacturer (not dealer) of the vehicle and ask if the vehicle complied with all applicable US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and US Emissions and/or California Emissions Standards.
It goes on to state...
Must be on the manufacturers letter head
Must list the full vehicle VIN
I suspect this was a rule meant for modern vehicles with OBDI or OBDII type systems but some DMV workers that done like vintage cars are using it to prevent guys from getting old cars back on the road..
