Hey, even some vintage articles were wrong!!
Fiberglas was used to mock up the Daytona.
At race speeds, steel was required!
So, to homologate the car, steel was also required for the street versions.
Certainly, if cheaper fiberglass could have been used, it would have.

Close... In 1971, 305was the limit.
The #22 Daytona in the '71 Daytona 500 used a Keith Black destroked 340, similar to the MoPar Trans Am cars the previous year.

5.0 liters are 305.119 cubic inches, don't know which system Bill France, Sr. used in his NASCAR rule book.
