Once in a while the Coronet R/T will cut out if I hit a bump while on a grade (train tracks). No big deal as it will turn right over and I can proceed before a train can hit me. Went to the bank a few weeks ago and when I returned less than 10 minutes later it would not evn turn over. Turn the key and nothing. It was warm out, maybe mid-seventies, and I had only driven it for a few minutes before I stopped at the bank. Well, I called AAA and about ten minutes later it sarted right up with no hesitation. Cancelled the AAA call and drove around with no problems. Today I went to the Pittsburgh Raceway Park All Chrysler Classic and it was about an hour drive for me (it is about an hour outside of Pittsburgh, Why is it called Pittsburgh Raceway I do not know). Looked at some call old race cars and parked my car in the car show. Maybe 25 cars and one Hemi Road Runner! Well, about an two hours later I went to leace the grass field and it stalled two or three times as I hit some bumps on a slight grade to the asphalt road. Then it was silent....turned the key and nothing. This time I was certain it would do what it did at the bank and start in ten minutes or so. An older guy in a Lil Red Express had a load tester and the battery was fine, but no juice to the starter or ballast resisitor. No lights, no power, and no crank. ten minutes later....started right up and I drove the hour back to the house. Does anyone know if this is due to the ballast resistor or do I have some other nasty wiring demon in the works?
thanks

Dont think its the ballest resistor, my guess would be grounds. I've had bad ballest resistors and what happens with me is the car will start but not stay running when the key is released to the "on" position on the ignition switch. I now carry a few in my glovebox. HOWEVER somebody did tell me that they had a car that the ballest resistor would always fail if they hit a big bump. I'm sure somebody else knows more...

Hell you could try a new ballest resistor, they are cheep

Thanks, It happened twice in the last 50 times of driving. I would say it stalled a cople of times over the same spot on the railroad crossing three times. Now I keep the gas up over the railroad track mound and it has not stalled on the grade. I hit a few large bumps on the ride back from the show and it never stalls unless I am going very slow, say under 5 MPH. It just confuses me why it will not turn over one minute after it stalls on bumps and then starts fine ten minutes later,

My money is on either the bulk head being burned where the fusable link passes through to the AMP meter or the AMP meter it's self.

I second the bulk head connector. Check them to make sure they are plugged in all together. The connection could be good enough to run but the vibration when hitting the bump causes movement and it stalled. Check all your grounds on the motor and the connections on the amp meter. You know it is going to be something simple and stupid you find causing the problem.

There is a wire in the bulkhead connector that always burns up on the 66-70 B Bodies. If I remember right it goes to the amp gauge on the back of the speedometer.I had a 66 Charger do the same exact thing to me as your car is doing to you.I replaced the old wire with heavier gauge wire and put in a inline fuse and never had a issue again. Most of my B Bodies I have had over the years have had this wire replaced before I ever got the car.We had to replace the same wire in my Fathers Super Bee.

if not the bulkhead im for the ammeter itself. when i was first trying to get mine started i had no juice, checked all my wireing and juice ended at power in side of ammeter wiggled the terminals a bit and got power wiggled a little more and lost power i decided to just bypass it and put both wires on the same stud for a temporary fix. then everything worked great. one other thing i know this may sound stupid but are both your battery terminals tight (had that happen when i was 16 and turned out battery ground was loose)

Just a thought, but if all else fails......how old is the ignition switch?
They can give you that sort of grief if they're old and flogged out.
