I have a 1966 B body plymouth Satillite

I need to replace my torsion bar cross member.
both sides are rotted six inches from the rockers,
the floor is good so i want to install the new cross member from the bottom. where is the best place to support the body and be out of the way
to weld the new cross member in ?

you can do it without pulling the floor
but its a little tricky
you do have to drill out a section of the floor on both sides
in that area and separate it away from the rocker it so you can
snake in the part of the tor x member
that is sandwiched in between the floor and rocker.

support the body away from the torsion x member area
so you have room to work and you will be fine

When I did my Challenger I put jack stands under the rockers fairly close to the work area and supported the k member area as well to prevent sagging. I used some 6" chunks of angle iron on top of the jack stands to spread the weight on the rockers. Once everything was held solidly in place I cut the crossmember out. My car did not have the drive train, or the k member for that matter, in so it was light quite easy to keep everything in place. This also meant there wasn't a lot of weight being held on the rockers. I had the floor out too.
