Hi, am having an issues with my brake lights. I have a 69 roadrunner. All of my lights work except the passenger side brake light. Bulb is good, wiring is new, grounds are good, brake light switch appears to be ok. Any thoughts?

Not sure about a '69 RR, but with my '64 my old turn signal switch affected my brake lights in weird ways.

what happens when you turn on the signal, does bulb light? What about 4 way flashers, does it work then? Could be a bad connection at the switch connector

and just a note, just because something is new, does not mean it's good or working correctly....

Try another new bulb. I've had bad new bulbs that looked ok but were not.

Everything works except the one brake light. I did have them both working at one point. The only thing I Fooled with was the brake light switch. I guess they are cheap enough to try a new one.

Yes I do. I'll try the brake light switch first.

Yes, I tried two ther bulbs. No luck.

If the other brake light basically work OK, then it is not the brake light switch.

If the rear passenger side turn signal works, then then bulb and socket are fine since the brake and turn signal use the same bulb filament. If this is the case, and the driver's brake light works OK, then check the brown wire into the direction signal switch connector in the steering column and then check the switch. Either of these may be defective.

FYI, the +12V 'juice' for the brake lights feeds through the brake light switch first and then through the turn signal switch before being sent to the brake/turn filamant in the rear bulbs.

not sure why everyone thinks it's the brake light switch.....it's either the turn signal switch or a connection to the one side...

again I ask, what about 4 way flashers? We can't help if you don't answer the questions we need to know here

2x...some folks CAN help go through these issues in a standard troublehsooting process and answering the questions and doing the tests laid out is part of this process.

The passenger side flasher does not work either. I'm sorry, thought it did work.

brake light switch appears to be ok.

and how does it "appear to be OK??" Is it still under the dash in it's bracket? Did you test it with a test light? Do you have power to the pink wire at switch?

and I ask one more time...what works and does not work when 4 way flashers are turned on?

see, now we have a completely different troubleshooting process because we did not get correct info the first or second time.

Did you check fuses?

My appologies. When the flashers are on, everything except the passenger side tail light works. Fuses are fine. Just to be sure, i replaced all of the fuses.

If you mean passenger side blinker light (which is also the passenger side hazard flasher light AND the passenger side brake light), then the problem is not in the brake switch but in the:
- blinker switch in the sterring column
- the connector(s) to that switch
- the wiring from that switch to the passenger side brake/tail light

Look at the passenger side brake/tail light socket and:
- make sure the contact in the soket are all good and are all clean
- see if there is a brown wire coming from that socket; that is the wire you want to trace all the way back to the turn signal switch in the steering column. If should have approx 12v on that wire all the way back to the trun signal switch when the brakes or the passenger turn signal are one. I would turn on the passenger side turn signal and use that as an on/off 12v signal to make tracing easy. (YOu can use a 12v test light for that testing.)

the passenger side tail light is not connected to the brake light system or the flasher system. It's a complete different circuit

so what's the real problem here?? No brake lights? No tail lights? No blinkers?

Problem is that the passenger side brake light and flasher on the same side do not work.

Ok, I'll check that out. Thanks for you advice. I'll report back with the results.
