I have a friend that has several nice vehicles he needs to sell. A 68 hemi Barracuda, 62 Polara 500 convert, 62 Sport Fury convert, 66 Dodge Charger, and a few others. These are all very nice cars but not show cars. He's considering using Bring a Trailer. Can anyone here offer any experience with bring a trailer or other sales possibilities?

That would require lot of help from me. My friend is not a computer savvy guy. He doesn't even own a computer. But, I think you are right.....

Looks like he's going to need your help either way, if he doesn't own a computer or can't negotiate a smartphone. Why let him get wrapped up in all the fees associated with these selling sites. All they want is a big chunk of the action and palm off all the work to other people with their hand out. Solid Mopars at a decent price, with no BS can be a reality here. Apparently he's been in the hobby long enough to aquire a nice Mopar collection, he knows what a realistic value is. Let him tell you and post them here first, before he wastes money promoting a sale. My rant for today.

Dang, a 68 Barracuda HEMI

I'd like to see that one, I doubt I'd have the $$$ though
I had one in the early 80s from a guy named P.Fulton out here, for $6k
A light Gold color, I don't remember which
SS/AHA clone, all stock 426 Hemi was worn out, used up
nice heads & rocker camshaft & cost like $3500 to rebuild it right, back then
Carter carbs were junk, too expensive to replace, the shafts were junk
went to Holley 660's
the trans A727 was good, new J converter, new gears 4.10:1, Dana 60
29.5x10.5/15 Goodyears on Cragar Supertricks
some 15x4" Flee/slots front rims/560x15 tires...
I sold it a couple years later, for $17k, I kick myself daily for that
that guy flipped it for nearly $60K, a couple weeks later, to some guy back east
he didn't do sh*t to it either, before he sold it...

I agree. Nothing gained, nothing lost.

Since you're nearby in Greer, SC, I'm hoping he's nearby too. Maybe I need another project with that Hemi Barracuda. I'd better start buttering up the wife!

I think all 4 cars are a hard sell. Even if the Hemi 68 Barracuda is real, limited people are into buying race cars. Clones are even have a tough time depending on personal touches. I know someone that just sold one.

‘62 B’s and 66 Charger’s are very low on 62-74 B-body popularity.

Moving all 4 cars is going to take a lot off effort. I don’t care what the even near reasonable price is.

Listing here first makes sense. See if you get any bites, then look at BAT if you don’t have much success or still have a car or two left. BAT requires you to be computer savvy too.

I really like BAT because of the number of pictures, car issue transparency, cold start videos, and detailed descriptions of problems. The comments and questions in the comments are also helpful, some of the commenters are really knowledgeable.

I have nothing but good to say about my Bring a Trailer selling experience.

You need to realize that BaT wants cars to sell. They will set the reserve. They will ask for at least 200 photos and some angles and frames must cover exactly what they want to see.

Cold start and driving videos are a must.

I don't recommend you use the BaT photo service as my friends were disappointed in the service and results.

Finally, do not waste your time listing on Mopar forums, especially this one. Only perfect cars selling below market value get any attention on FBBO. The constant low balling and nit picking just adds stress to you trying to move a car

The cars are in storage and won't be available until spring. The first place they will show up for sale is here.

The Barracuda is a 69 (not 68) with a Hemi and super stock hood. Eye catching hot rod. Motor looks pretty serious. Quality goes a long way with those. $50-$75k selling …high range if quality (looks it) and streetable.

Is the black 62 a tribute or real MW conv?

If tribute, 62’s are very niche. And greater amount of potential buyers for sedans done like a Mosher car. Black/white is good combo, looks quality $35k-$45k selling

Maybe $10K more for either IF you sit in them for 1-2 years and keep putting effort in it.

I’m surprised he’s very familiar with BaT if he doesn’t own a computer. It’s usually necessary for the seller, dealer, or someone representing the owner to be closely involved with the bidding on BaT to get top results by answering questions and providing additional information, and basically to just gab with and massage some of the commenters. Generally, they react negatively if there is no one at home responding to comments and often assume the seller is being less than up front about the car which often results in low bids.

IMO BAT is better than eBay in that BAT has more "real" buyers because they automatically charge the winning bidder their fee as soon as the auction is over, resets the auction clock at 2:00 after each bid so there are no BOT or fake bids at the end, and has more interaction during the auction. However, most cars listed on BAT are super/exotic cars and not classics/muscle cars so your buyers are not the same market as Mecum/BJ. BAT fees are also way more reasonable than any live auction like Mecum/BJ, you don't have any transportation fees, and your auction lasts 7 days not 45 seconds.

I sold my '70 Cuda 392 Hemi on BAT and had a good experience with their photographer (a contractor for BAT). He picked a great spot, had the list of required photos from BAT, edited and uploaded all photos. BAT will ask you questions for the initial write up, they will send you a draft to edit it before the final listing. BAT will also ask what you want the reserve at and then negotiate it down based on previous sales of like make/models/years. Then BAT will then tell you when your car will be listed, likely a couple of weeks out.

Once your BAT auction starts I have found the best auction results include a very active seller, meaning you have to respond quickly and accurately to all questions, post comments or additional features to highlight your car throughout your auction, and post additional photos and videos at least once a day because people who tag your auction as "watch" receive emails/texts for any additional photos/videos posted and this keeps your auction at the top of their list. BAT will tell you to not post when your reserve is met or close, but some sellers do anyway. I'm not sure if this really impacts the sale or not.

When your auction is over and the reserve was met, BAT will put you in touch with the winning buyer and it is up to you to make arrangements for payment and transportation. If your reserve is not met, BAT will still put you in touch with the highest bidder to see if you can negotiate a deal. Again, something eBay does not do. If there is an issue with payment or the winning bidder does not full fill their purchase, BAT will ban that buyer and offer to relist your car for no additional cost.

This is a great video comparing Mecum vs BAT -

Sorry, I forgot the year of the Barracuda. The Polara convertible is not a factory max-wedge. It's a 440 with max-wedge intake, exhaust, etc.

I've been looking for a 66/67 Coronet for a while, but might be interested in the Charger if it checks most of my boxes and the headlight motors and dash lights/gauges work.
