My '72 SSP project car has a slapstick floor shift and the console has been permanently removed. Just installed my recovered drivers bucket seat using aftermarket foam. Need to slide the seat all the way back (which is fine because it makes a good fit that way with my 6 foot 1 inch frame) or the drivers side corner of the slapstick frame is so close to the bucket seat it could easily rip the entire bottom right side of the seat wide open (reminds me of the Titanic disaster).

Anyone else have problems with clearance there? As long as I don't move my seat forward I will be fine. Also keep in mind that my slapstick almost looks like it is tilted a little in the direction of the driver, don't know if that is normal or if it might be a little bent.

I believe that 71 - 74 are the same, so here is a picture of the layout in my 73 if this helps. Also shows the holes for the bucket seat tracks.

What I see in idrivemopar's foto above looks to me like the shift indicator side of the floor shift (to the left of the T handle) is canted a little bit downward, that's what I was talking about. My clearance issues may just be due to the new seat foam being a little more spongy than factory.

Keep in mind that my shifter is not perfect, it was previously cut out when I first bought the car, and I found a replacement mount and welded it back in. Here is a picture of it installed with the seat forward showing the clearance.

I would think you have something out of place. The entire upper indicator surface is flat and should not be tilted toward the seat. With stock seats on stock mounting locations you should have close to one inch clearance. Possibly a poor retrofit by a prior owner?

I don't think there is a fixed position for the Slap Stick mounts. They would just install the torque shaft, and once it was in the right position they would weld the brackets into place. There's no holes, indents, etc. to mark the location, so these are usually a little different from car to car.

My car is a factory equipped console car with slapstick, a '72 Satellite Sebring Plus, doubt if the installation is anything but factory, the only thing changed recently is having the seat recovered and new seat foam.
