Carter AVS Four Barrel Date Coding

My question is …..using these numbers as an example…..D9 4615SA could your engine possibly have a date coded B9 4615SA or C9 4615SA carburetor on it and be correct…..it would be impossible to have a E9 or higher letter because the car would have all ready been produced….any correct responses will be appreciated…..

You are correct that would be after assembly of car. I do believe a 90 day window before is pretty common. Engine blocks and other castings can be very early cast date versus the assembly date. IE: Block, trans case, alternator & starter case and Distrubutor . Ive never seen a cast date on carter carbs just the assembly date on the passenger side front foot and the tag on top( may have it) . Also look at things this way it may have sat on a shelf or in the bottom of a bin before getting used. Now I would not rule out parts used from the previous like left overs some or things like light bulbs may be old left over items and predate out of the window. I’m sure some will come in and offer up more.
