I have a '71 Roadrunner. It has a code R36 and a floor mounted cassette player. I didn't know cassette players came with these cars til the middle of the '70's. Anyway, someone told me that Mopar made 137 of these cars with them. Can anyone varify this? Is this really that "rare"?

No one?

not for certain.A friend of mine has a 72 monaco that had one.I know they were an option, but not sure how many were ordered. If you can get ahold of somebody that has the option book like GG,they could look it up.

I would think it would be possible. I knew years ago that two friends of mine each had an early, ordered '72 and '73 Dodge Charger and these both had the am/fm/stereo radios with cassette player/recorders in them. I believe they called them "dictation recorder" units with microphones attached/plugged in and mounted on the floor on the hump in cars without center consoles. I once had a '73 Charger with a am/fm/stereo radio and the provisions for the "add on" unit were in the back of the radio. I had aquired a cassette unit at an electronics swap and put it directly in and played stereo music tapes great. So, I wouldn't think it would be impossible to get it on a '71 RR. They were an item that wasn't ordered in abundunce or found in the dealers lots of the day.

Thanks to all who replied. CrunchyFrog- Thats mine on the hump. I have a NOS mic to plug into it. The NOS mic has a cord that goes around your neck and the mic hangs just below your mouth, on your chest, for "easy" recording.

Yes, it does work.

my 71 gtx has the R26 AM Stereo radio with cassette player (first year option) and is on the hump.

and my is 4speed car

Yes, it does work. and is blue one

One just went on ebay for $50.

I was sleeping or I would have bid $75.

I'd like to use just the shell to mount a modern double DIN unit.

How cool was it to offer cassette players back when others were still doing the 8 track thing? only about 10 years ahead of their time.

This and factory ratchet shifters, etc, etc...
