I am going to be changing out my 64's stock oil pan for a milodon 30930.

Do I just drop the entire steering linkage, or will there be enough give if I just pop the idler arm off? would I have to remove the linkage from pitman arm too?

I know that i'll need to make a small notch in the k-frame for this pan.

You may have to pop one tie rod and swing the drag link out of the way or just take it out. Also the access to the front pan bolts are a bit tight because of their proximity to the K member (at least for the 66-70 cars). Another thing to consider is you will need to deal with the oil pickup as you try to drop the pan. It's possible there will be cussing involved!!

Cussing possible? LOL. I just as soon take the whole motor out than dive underneath for that....

Yep it will surely be a little annoying but at least it won't be working under the dash. That is the worst!

I think that I will end up unbolting the motor mounts and jacking the engine up to get some clearance between the engine and k-frame. ... which involves removing the fan... and shroud. and exhaust maybe.... hmmmm

thanks for the help guys.

You will have to either slide out the idler arm or pop the pitman arm. The inner tie rods are on the outer side of the steering link. The pitman arm and idler arm are on the inside. One of the inside connections as well as one of the inner tie rods will have to be removed to swing the steering link out of the way. I'd go with the idler arm side. Pitman arm's usually require a puller.

Good luck

Perfect, thanks for the advice. I was thinking the same thing, remove the idler arm and tie rod on the same side and swing it out of the way.

Thanks :beerchug:
