Good afternoon Team B Body folks. I have the Engine and Trans out of Sassypants (66 Coronet Convert) and it is a GREASEBALL. I can get to a "hot" pressure washer that goes to 140 ish degrees. Question, how do I prep the engine so that the boys can do their work and have a chance of getting the engine down to what I need to give it a paint job? I have heard about Oven Cleaner, Grill Cleaner and of course the sundry of all those commercial products. So the question, what really does cut grease that has been sitting for 30 years? Any help appreciated.

Best

If you do not care whether you remove paint along with the grease, I've found that EZ-Off oven cleaner works great! Rubber gloves and eye protection are a MUST, as the main content in this is LYE! But damn, does it work! Spray the cleaner, let sit for a couple of minutes, then take a stiff wire brush to the affected areas. Spray again if needed and repeat. Rinse with pressurized hot soapy water, then rinse. Chances are very good it'll shine like a diamond in a goat's ***! Use compressed air to thoroughly dry, then paint.

Engine degreaser and a few blasts with that Steam Cleaner
Repeat, re-apply de-greaser, blast again.

Thank you Very Much folks, that is what I have heard works best. I think I will take a scraper to some of the real caked on stuff, then give her a spray job before taking it to my buddy's garage for the final hot bath. :).

You folks are GREAT!! Thank you again.

I use GUNK....works well with cold water

I've had good results with the "blue" degreaser sold at Sams Club. It's about $6.00 per gallon.

I like the Easy Off oven cleaner as well. It will take off the paint so anything that gets wet will flash rust right away. I used a wire brush attached to a drill to remove the rust, wiped with alcohol and then painted.

Awesome cleaner from the dollar store ( $1 per 16 oz spray bottle). Soak it, pressure wash, repeat. I just cleaned my Wife's 160K 2000 Caravan oil leaker with it and about $5 at the car wash.

A hot pressure washer should take it all off unless the pressure is low......or if the caked on grime has hardened solid.
