Does anybody have a good way to clean up your wiring harness and plugs? My under dash one is in good shape but dirty. I would like to give it a makeover without re-wrapping the whole thing if necessary. My engine bay ones need a bit more attention, but mainly its dirt again. Any help and sharing of experience would be much appreciated.

Buddy of mine sprays tire foam in the engine bay. Cleans up wires nicely I must say.

I have used simple green to clean wire harnesses, if you use full strength, the use a damp towel after words to clean the simple green residue off. It works good to cut crud old dust and dirt and what not off stuff. You can use brake clean also on the ones with heavy oil/dirt deposits, but be careful, spray it into a towel then wipe the wires with it. Don't get on paint, it can eat it away.

Knights Spray Nine works great. When I had mine out of the car , I scrubed them with a brush and SP9 outside. Then hosed them down with water. They looked new after that.

Thanks for that guys, I was just worried about ingress of moisture seeping inside the insulation at the connections. Should be fine so long as I don't soak it. The vinyl wrap for under dash does not look too too durable either so I might lay off the brake clean, but the gentler remedies will probably be the answer. I do have a roll of new wrap should I need to make any repairs.

Hey Jase, hit up Propwash about the vinyl wiring harness tape! Forget where he said he got it but I'd just take the old stuff off and replace it with new as I'm cleaning. And simple green would probably work great like everyone's saying, for what original wiring I'm still using I just used a sponge and water with dish soap mixture but either way!

I clean with degreaser like everyone else... then I spray down the wires and plug ends with tire shine then let them sit till a day and give them another shot... once they air dry for anothenday or 2 I 're wrap them..... tire shine has brought back hard stiff plastic and rubber like the body plugs and weatherstrip....

I used some Purple Power and a tooth brush. Wiped it down with a wet rag when I was done. You can also blow out the connectors with compressed air to ensure everything is dry. Cleaned up real nice. Use the dielectric grease at the connections when re-installing everything. It does make a difference. It can be picked up at any auto parts store.
