Hi Gang,

I have a 66 Belvedere II, 383 /727 / Sure grip. All running gears has been changed to a build 68-383, .501 Cam, 11:1 KB pistons, MSD, heads completely redone and has Hooker SuperComp headers.
It runs like a bat out of hell.

My issue is electrical and over the past month(s). When I turned on my headlights recently--the volt meter went crazy and it also blew the fusible link. With all the wiring issues and OLD firewall terminal block of wires, voltage limiters, etc....I have decided to re-work all the electrical issues and operate it with a series of good toggle switches (properly fused, of course). I will be putting toggles in place of everything and eliminate all the headaches of old wiring, etc. I have found a way to install a good set of gauges in the dash and run the toggles in a very nice looking array. (Think NASCAR type dashboard).

The concern now becomes the alternator. Do I simply install a 1-wire alternator and bypass my old Voltage regulator (VR-706).?? I thought I would reach out to so many people on this site who have done this before. It doesn't seem hard to accomplish, --just double checking my procedures and thinking. I value your opinion.

Upgraded to a GM CS 130 single wire alternator, ran the wire to the starter relay to battery terminal stud . Used #8 wire with fusible link

Thanks for the feedback. Question.....After the installation of the 1-wire Alt, do I just BYPASS the old Voltage regulator and Ballast resistor? That's it???

Remove the voltage regulator and tape off the wires. Keep the ballast if your ignition requires it. I have constant 14.0 volts even at idle. Needed the alternator for fuel injection
