Correct Distributor?

My brother bought a single point distributor off ebay that is supposed to be correct for his 69 Coronet R/T 440 automatic trans. The tag no. is 2875764. Is this the correct distributor for his car? Also, I see that you can buy a refurbished single point distributor from Rockauto and send them your core. Would this be a wise thing to do? Is there a difference between the HO 440 distributor and the base one? Any help would really be appreciated.

The 2875764 distributor that your brother bought is for the base 350HP engine for a '69 440. The 375HP HO engine distributor is part number 2875758 according to my book. The distributors are a little different as far as the advance timing is concerned but not by a lot. I think that the advance comes on a little sooner on the 758 distributor. You could probably use either distributor with a little tweaking if matching numbers isn't important. I can tell you for sure that if you buy one from Rockauto or any chain parts store you will get whatever refurbished distributor they have on the shelf for a '69 dodge 440 without any regard to the factory part number. If you want correct numbers, you can buy reproduction part number tags. I picked one up not long ago, but cant for the life of me remember who I got it from. Do a search and they will pop up. I also picked up a single point on E bay for my 71 R/T 440. it was not the correct number distributor, but I send my distributors to Advanced distributors in Minnesota. He will reasonably tune it up specifically for your application and you will be farther ahead then buying an unknown rebuilt unit.
