Howdy:
I'm not a totally new member, joining about 2 months ago. 1st Mopar I remember was the family 46 Plymouth sedan. Then there was the 53 Plymouth with flathead 6 I inherited for college years, which I equipped with a split exhaust manifold and twin glass packs--pretty loud!
Lately I've been busy on FBBO getting help and suggestions from you guys (and at least one gal!) with wiring problems under the dash plus carb troubles. But now I'd like to introduce my "Desert Bird".
I'm a retired old fart and was able to cross one item off my bucket list: Get a Classic Mopar Muscle Car!
A couple years ago I acquired a 73 Road Runner (on Father's Day). I'm the 3rd owner, with the 2nd owner being a little old lady from Carlsbad, CA who had it for 30 years. The good thing about So. Calif is that car bodies don't have to deal with salted roads and hardly any wet conditions. So the body is very well preserved. It is more of a cruiser than racer, but still fun to drive. It has a 318 2BBL with 3-speed automatic. But even so, it will do quite nicely when I punch it to pass on So. Calif freeways.
After I had it a few months, I was rear-ended by a small Nissan. Not much damage to the RR, with the Nissan scattering its plastic front end all over the road. I found a local Chrysler Dealer with a body shop manager that went to bat for me and got the other guy's insur to cover a complete paint job and rear bumper re-chrome in AZ (where they do it right). The painter did a great job re-creating the gun-metal gray metallic color & now with clear coat! I'll post some photos of my baby. Note the orig exh tips!
Let me close with a saying I found on a placard in the glove box--I think courtesy of the previous owner's daughter: (my apologies to the Dodge Bro's)
Road Runner: Geococcyx Californianuss--Crested , terrestrial bird of the highway. Wings short and rounded. Runs rapdily, trailing its long tail. Eats lizards, snakes, fords, chevys, and dodges!
BTW, I have a Dodge--05 Dakota 4.7L.
FBBO is a great service to a noble car nation!
