I am working on a 1972 plymouth road runner, I plan to be ready to paint very soon. Because the car is no longer 100% numbers matching/original I decided to paint it a different more attractive oem chrysler era correct color. I have been going back and fourth between top banana yellow and curious yellow. I did come to find that curious yellow is 1971 only color... which makes me lean twords top banana yellow since mine is a 1972. Looking for help or advise on what color to paint my Road Runner! thanks

I like Curious yellow much better as it's not as bright of a yellow.

I actually have both colors painted on a piece of metal, I see the curious yellow actually has a tint of green to it and is very bright. The top banana is somewhat pale in comparison

PALE???

Top Bananna is a TRUE yellow. It has no green or white in it. it is a great
color. The 68-69 Yellow is more of a paler yellow.

I am confident that I am going to paint the car either gy3 or y1, I like each color equally as well, but knowing that some colors fit certan cars better than others I am just looking for advise or opinions. Thanks to those that have replied thus far.

I have a 72 roadrunner gtx non oem. just painted curious yellow . LOOKS AWESOME! still under restoration.

Top banana is my vote. Every car that I take a photo of that is curious yellow looks green in the pictures. Depending on the lighting of course. That is why the Nash Bridges 'Cuda was changed to butterscotch because it did not look consistant on film.

I painted mine 2005 Mustang GT screaming yellow. I was going to paint it top banana but after painting a friends Cuda top banana I also thought it was too pale or kind of tan looking. I don't like the greenish yellows or the orangish yellows I like pure yellows. Besides like it says in the magazine article on my car fords don't need the paint anyway they don't have car shows in junkyards. This is the link to the magazine article in Mopar Max magazine on my car it has pictures of my car also http://www.moparmax.com/features/featurecar/v_5-resurrection-1.html

That is probably a product of the change in paints from back in the day. Many times when you go to the paint store with the original paint code the product is not at all like the original color. The best thing you can do is find an original color chip and have it color matched today. I can assure you there was NOTHING pale about Top Bananna when it was new.

Not to be a stickler, but you would be referring to Lemon Twist for your Plymouth. Top Banana is Dodge. Same color, anyway. As said, it is a true yellow... and it's far from pale. The sunfire yellow was more of a pale yellow. Curious indeed has the green hue. I changed my car to LT, & it's just as yellow as they ever were ! Look at both, like at a show, you can see the differences & decide what you like better.

I just painted my second 1964 El-Camino, both were Curius Yellow. If you want a LOT of looks I would paint it Curious Yellow. It turns a shade green when it's not in the sunlight. It usually looks bright yellow on the outside and a light green on the shady areas of the inside. Also: the lower sides will be greenish during the sunny days too.
Everyone seems to love this color and I always have people asking me what color it is. I'M A FIRM BELIEVER in Curious Yellow.

Good luck and I hope / know I didn't talk you into something you won't be thrilled with.

Ditto....

Top Banana is a much nicer color in all lights.... Also it renders softer sculptural shapes like your fuselage style car much much much better IMO....

Curios yellow looks very green to me especially at night under anything but incandescent light.... It also doesn't shade shift as much from horizontal to vertical as much ( what I mean by sculptural rendering above) or as well. Looks kind of flat IMO. For example....I think it actually works a little better on 68 to 70 road runners where the shift from vertical to horizontal is more abrupt and hard shadow lines are built into the design...

I suggest you paint some large (1'x1') samples and put them on the car on both vertical and horizontal surfaces to get an idea of what it will look like and what you like best.

Choosing your car's color(s) can be a lot like choosing a woman to keep. No two are the same and beauty is in the eye of the owner!!!!

Do what makes you like the car better !!!!!!!

And don't forget to post pictures of your results here so we can all drool over your car.

I have a top banana car and its a great color, but make sure your painter uses the right color primer or it will not look right...best wishes CD
