What models equipped with a Dana 60 can I yank the axle out of? I do not want to cut, or modify, I want a bolt in. I beileve pickup axles are too wide, and a/e bodies are different sizes.

The same goes for transmissions. I would like to eventually install a tremec, but before I save up $3000+, I wouldnt mind looking around for a trans that swaps in. Since I currently have a 727, Im holding my breath. I plan on keeping it auto since I cant easily buy all the parts I need for a man trans(yay keisler). I dont mind having the driveshaft shortened, but I dont want to hack up my crossmember. I know certain Dakota transmissions will swap in, but with ALOT of modifications.

And on a side note, speaking of dakotas, I saw one of the early ninties convertible ones the other day. Kinda cool.

If you want a "bolt in" Dana 60 for your car, then you have two choices. Either find an original 71 up B body Dana (good luck with that) or buy a new one. (cha-CHING)

For the price of buying a used one..You can build a new one...I,m lucky to have many 4x4 shops were I live..Most of them can cut and build what you want...I can build a custom one for about the same as a used B body one..

Then what is the best donor vehicle to get a Dana 60 from? I suspect anything with a 5x5.5 lug pattern(I know newer Jeeps use those, so I guess the rest of MaMopar does as well, although I could be wrong).

What parts would I need to locate for the Dana 60 swap anyway? Since most donor vehicles would probably be 1 ton trucks, I would need to convert the lug pattern. Would all of those parts be something a 4x4/speed shop could get? Dunno, seems pricey. As in more pricey than axle+shipping from the junkyard.

727's arent bad, but im not drag racing or concours restoring my car. Overdrive FTW.

Since you,re gonna use a 1 ton truck rearend, your gonna have new axles made anyway because you are gonna have them shortened and resplined..I did this with my 72 landcruiser..I have toyota 6 lug bolt pattern on 1 ton axle..They have universal axles that you just cut to size..Rear dana 60 are everywere...They are also cheap...It can be done at about the same price or cheaper than finding a b body axle...This is what i,m gonna do...I,m trading toyota 4x4 parts for the axle...So no money there...450.00 for the disc brakes...225.00 for the axles universal..It,s already got 4.10 gears so i,ll need a spool another 200 bucks..labor for cutting the tubes and welding on new perches 125.00...
I,m looking at about 1200 bucks, thats with disc brakes too!!I have a landcruiser with dana 60.s front and rear, hydraulic ram assit steering with atlas transfer case and an sm420 tranny...Been rockcrawling for over 25 years...
