Thinking of dropping a 3-53 into a 71 Satellite 318 car.
Cars been sitting for 20+.
3-53 wt is 1000lbs. Will the k frame work, what size torsion bar would i need.
Not restoring or cloning, just making a rat rod.

Why would you put an old slobbering Detroit in a mopar? I wouldn’t put in a forklift... your probably going to run out of rpm and gears to get the car moving and if it’s not supercharged one you’ll be seeing a lot of tail lights. My place of employment has one in a jet powered snow blower , the drive engine is a 3 cyl Detroit. You could pick up a used small block magnum or la for peanuts... just my 2 cents worth.
Nothing will fit to an old Detroit either and you front suspension will probably taxed heavily and not like it.

Two posts in 10 years of membership and THIS is one of them....
What is he asking? Is this a diesel engine? Almost double the weight of a 318 for what gain?

Do you already have the diesel? Whether it will fit your engine compartment is something you'll need to measure to get the dimensions. Is it short enough to close the hood? You can get an adapter https://quickdrawbrand.com/product/detroit-353-454-sae3-to-nv4500-adapter-kit/ to mate it up to an NV4500 5 speed, if you want to very slowly row your way down the street. If it comes with a 24 volt starter, there are 12 V versions available. And 1,000 pounds is low by about a hundred.

In the end, you'll have about the same effect by putting in a slant six and remove three of the spark plug wires. :)

The front end will not support it. I have seen a 70 or 71 monte carlo with an early Cummins out of a first or second year dodge pickup.

Some people spend more time thinking about how to do something and little time about whether they should.

Why don't you make a "rat rod" like this? That way you could actually enjoy it, drive it, and not lose 100% of it's value?

Uncle Tony's Garage on YouTube has a great video on building a hot 318

Anything can be done IF...if that is what you desire
