Saw this in an ad for a 74 Road Runner on racingjunk.com. I've never thought of making my own Rallye tach cluster, but I think that looks pretty good.

In a pinch it is usable but not nice
I lucked out to find a set with 150 speedo and tach
in perfect shape 30 years ago and is still good
will be back on the road in next couple of years

I've always been more of a fit & function than a looks guy myself, and if I can save a couple hundred bucks in the process... so much the better. :)

I did that on my Bee, back in the 90's, but I removed the lens from the aftermarket tach, and put it behind the factory clock lens, with a small plasic disk over the needle pivot. Came out looking MUCH more like a factory install, even though it obviously wasn't a "tic-toc".

I'm planning on doing the same when I'm ready to fit the rallye dash in my Satellite.

Trying to find a tach that has a similar letter/number font, and will fit inside the housing, and will allow partial dissasembly and still mount can be challenging.
