We have these sweets (not for much longer apparently) called Jaffas. Round balls about 1/2" diameter, chocolate centre, with a thin white shell and coated in an orange coloured & flavoured outer shell. Hard balls you pop in your mouth until they get a little softer...then you can chew crunch or just enjoy the chocolate melting in your mouth. Anyway.....
When I was about 13, I was invited to a friend's birthday party. It started out at the movies.....I have no recollection of what the movie was. But I do remember back in the day, and certainly that day, we would roll our Jaffas down the floor under the seats. It was like rolling marbles down the old flat wooden floors. Plenty of people looking around (you can see heads turning in the dark & light shadows....lol. - some getting a bit peeved at the extra noise from a group of unruly schoolboys.
Another stood up and yelled back at us - Crispin (birthday boy) had been sucking on some Minties (a hard white peppermint flavoured chewy sweet) until they were just getting soft and gooey. It seems that when he was throwing a few at people in front of us, he got the same guy at least twice........and he was not happy.
We calmed down a bit after that.....well, a little bit. Crispin was also the one who introduced me to the sounds of early Queen records. We lived on a farm and didn't play too many records. Most music came by way of either the Cow-shed radio or the stereo we had in the house - usually set on the radio..... always listened to Casey Kasem AT40. Digressed somewhat.

Jaffa Race is an
annual charity event held in July each year in Dunedin, New Zealand. It involves letting 75,000 Jaffas lollies roll down the steepest street in the world, Baldwin Street, Dunedin. Jaffas are red-shelled chocolate candies popular in Australia and New Zealand. The event has been held since 2001 and is one of the most popular components of the seven-day carnival.
We went down to Dunedin in 2012 and witnessed the race. Everyone has a chance to buy lottery tickets with a corresponding numbered Jaffa in the hopes that your Jaffa crosses the line first.
