The nurse approached the doctor with the results from Mr. Jones' examination and as the doctor looked through the results he was bewildered.
"I don't remember Mr. Jones being that incoherent, he seemed like he was fine, he couldn't have had Alzheimer's," he said. "I thought he came in to get tested for STDs?"
The nurse looked at her other records, and said, "No that was this gentleman." As she handed him the folder, she realized they had two men named Norm Jones the same week, one had Alzheimer's and the other had STDs. The nurse somehow mixed up the records and just entered the diagnosis without realize there were two of them.
"Well, which one was which," the doctor asked the nurse. "We have to call their wives and let them know, but I don't want to give the wrong diagnosis to them."
This could be a big problem for the doctor if they call with the wrong results.
The nurse said, "I will take care of it, Doctor, I know what to do. We'll be fine."

So the nurse called the first Mrs. Jones and she told her, "Hi, Mrs. Jones? This is the nurse at the doctor's office. We have the results from your husband's tests, but I need you to do something for me first so we can be accurate."
"Sure, anything.. .just let me know what you need," said Mrs. Jones.
"Well, I need you to send your husband out for a walk around the block. Give him a half an hour, and if he doesn't come back you need to go get him and call me, it means he has early signs of Alzheimer's Disease and we can begin treatment immediately."
"Well, this is quite a shock," Mrs. Jones replied. "But what do I do if he comes back within a half an hour? What does that mean?"
"If he comes back, give me a call. And don't sleep with him tonight."
