hey guys,

I just pulled my door lock assemblies out and want to clean them up and put the on my car looking like they are not 47 years old. Anybody got suggestions on how to clean them up and make themlook like they did closer to when they were new. My car was green and I am painting it Vitamin C the locks have green paint on them. Were they painted body color I've seen some with a gold shiny appearance, any help will be appreciated if you want to post pictures that would be helpful. Thanks

I took out all components and regulators soaked them a few days in mineral spirits and pressure washed the hell out of them. Some old grease still needed elbow grease to remove hardened grease so used a variety if stuff in the channels to remove like scarifying pads and wire wheeling with dremel tool. Then coated with lithium grease and generously plus moving components around to get grease in those areas before reinstalling. Not aware of any painting of these parts. I don't plan to be around another 50 years to worry about this stuff deteriorating..
