Well i want to get into drag racing. I dont know much about cars but i wanna learn more then anything. I was wondering how hard would it be to build a drag car? Or would i be better of buying a already built drag racing car and just working on it? Help please

How much it costs is directly proportional to how fast you want to go. In other words, you can race anything. BUT....if you want to go fast (and by fast I'm talking 11's or quicker in the quarter) then you need to be prepared to spend some money. It will also cost more if you plan on running in a N.H.R.A. class

You can race your family sedan.
What ever you drive. Neon, Durango, Stratus, what ever.
Just take it to the track on test and tune nights. Usually Weds.

Make as many passes as you can. May not be more then 3 in a night.

Get the feel for the lights and staging, etiquette.

Ask questions. Pay attention to what is going on around you.

if i were you and your starting out, definitely do your homework and buy a well built roller. there are some really great cars out there to buy.
to build it yourself from scratch will cost you more than 2x's what a already done race car would cost.
after all these years of doing the cars the way i want, and building them myself . i bought a awesome well built race car done to perfection for pennies on the dollar.no regrets herehow much you looing to spend.

Well there was a duster on ebay last week...The guy originally wanted 59 k for the car...It was a record breaking car in the 80,s then they changed the nhra rules...At first the bidding went up to 10k...Then the auction ended...He reposted it again...I put in a bid of 7777.77 just for shits and giggles...It now had a buy it now price of 29k...Knowing I had not a chance in hell of winning the car...Then the auction was over the guy sends me an email of secound chance...He would take the 7777.77 I offered....Yet too many projects and the boss said no way!!!!Damn I could of had a low ten running duster for less than 8000.00!!!!Just comes to show that people are hurtin for money out there...If you got the money save yourself time and money and buy something if not done almost done...If it was a Demon I would of bought it anyway wether my wife liked it or not!!!!

Again, it all depends on what kind of drag racing. My neighbor bracket races his Buick Electra 225 with a 455. It ain't pretty but it is cheap. He is consistent and can surprise the $#%& out of a lot of 5.0 Mustangs out there. I bracket raced my bone stock 02 Dodge Spirit at Texas Motorplex one day and had a blast. I agree with Ctown Chris - go on a test and tune night and run whatever you have. Ask questions, pay attention. Make friends with a racer, offer to help him work on his car and help out at the track.
