Is their a difference in the metal width of the drip rail, between a vinyl top and non vinyl top car?

My problem:
I am fixing my lower a-pillar by sectioning in an a-pillar from a donor car and there is a definite difference!

The blue upper piece .335 is from a vinyl top car.
The green sectioned in piece .350 is from a donor car that I have no idea what it had? Maybe the non vinyl cars were thicker?

I think I can grind down or blend in the difference so it would not be noticeable.
But is this going to give me problems down the road, if I put a vinyl top on?

I don't know what to do about this?

When they made the body's the perfect ones were black and then all the top end stuff and the ones that didn't quite make the grade were the vinal tops to cover the imperfections probably the start of the run and end run cars were vinal the real bad ones were convertible cars they would have to hack them up an at way.... they weren't our prized possessions then just another number down the line.

I thought about rhino liner on the top and throwing a sheet of plastic over it blotting for texture as it sets up

i agree with Donny, just make it work, a little massaging and ingenuity can make it perfect. have you ever looked that close at drip rails on other cars? I think not. just feel good about have a donor part!
