Question for the foot brake guys. I'm going to be putting my car on the track next year (fingers crossed). 66 coronet, 400cu +.030, foot brake, nothing crazy, just some fun on the weekends. Currently have OE style drums (all four corners) 10" x 2.5". Does anyone have a source for HD (quality) drums, or a brand that's trusted, I assume 90% or more are made outside the U.S.? I wont be breaking any speed records, just want to have some good brakes up front.

What would be more important is to make sure the drums are running true to avoid shoes rubbing.

I can tell you from foot braking my Duster with 10" x 2.5" rear drums (Sorry disk on the front) it's real important to use riveted brakes shoes rather than bonded shoes.

Some may argue this, but you can peel the linnings right off the bonded type as I learned. Never had an issue with riveted shoes.

Since your racing if the drums are still within specifications just have all of them cut to the same size match the fronts to each other and the rear match each other. Then arch the shoes to fit the cut drums. No pulling and best of all no drag like disk brakes give.
Craig at @mobileparts Has the proper parts needed also that wont rip up the drums like new shoes will.

In the past I've run mid 10's@128 using 10" drum brakes. It wasn't bad at a normal length track.Th biggest concern is pulling right or left on a hard stop. Good wheel cylinders, smooth backing plates, rivreted shoes, and drums that have a nice finish. Not to mention good front suspension components.

I'm in the process of converting my '66 Belvedere Wagon to front disc from 10" drums. If you need any parts, you can have them for free. I travel to the Grand Rapids / Holland area of MI for business often, if you would want to meet up.

In the old days I had 4 wheel drums in my 69 Charger at 3800 lbs going the best of 10:40's @ 129. Certain tracks it took everything it had to whoa it back down to make the turn off.

Same boat. High 120s, they're at the limit enough I'm putting disc's on

Raybestos still lists drums for your car: Catalog Part Search - Find Auto Brake Parts for Your Vehicle

if you can't get them here, from a member

try 11" x 3" HD front drums like the RRs have, & other MoPar Muscle cars
seriously better than a 10" drum of any kind

new ones from

If the car stops ok, why would you add bigger brakes??????????
Drums & disc rotors act like a flywheel at each corner of the car. They have to be accelerated...before the car moves. D. Vizard did some testing on the affect of bigger diameter wheels on 1/4 mile time & ET suffered.

Anyone else use one of these, to get things close before you throw the drum on?
