I found an original 72 dash pad in great shape but someone had a sticker on it and it faded around it. Has anyone ever used vynal paint or any other methods to to fix that problem. Woul 250 be a good price? I appreciate any feedback.

Thanks!

I have used the duplicolor and rustolem vinal paint with great success. The key for me has been a good wash with soap and water and use of wax and grease remover. I also lightly use a green kitchen scrub pad as part of the prep. I did all the final in my boat nearly 3 years ago and it still looks great, no fading or pealing at all

I haven't gotten to my dash pad yet, but I have restored numerous other interior parts on my RR and I swear by SEM products. I have had extremely good luck with them. As stated above, it is not as easy as just spraying paint on it though. There is a multi step process involved when painting vinyl or plastic and you need to make sure you get it done proper otherwise it will not adhere properly and you will have issues further down the road. I believe a few people in the forum have some restoration posts already written. You should be able to do a search using SEM and pull one up.

I think it is SEN but I agree. Painted my 07 Charger dash a B-7 shade I mixed myself. Just make sure you clean it good and use gorrilla grip "etch" before spraying color coat.

Just finished painting my dash pad. I used SEM (flexible paint). I didn't change colors, started with/stayed with black. I cleaned it with simple green cleaner, then 2x with xylene thinner. I did 2x coats. Good luck

I used the black Kiwi shoe polish from the squeeze bottle. It's tricky to make it come out without streaks but was able to make it look good after some practice. Dash has been installed in the car for some time but pretty much confined to the shop because car still not done. Can't comment on the durability, but if I have issues I'll just do something else later. I think it will be OK though.

Never had much luck with krylon vinyl paint etc, but SEM Colorcoat is the only thing I'll ever use now. Cheap price, nice finish, and tough as nails. Heard Herb's has good dye also, but SEM for me.

Thank you all for the responses! I still havent been able to get my hands on the dash pad yet but I think its worth getting now that I can freshen it up. It sounds like SEM is a very good product and I look forward to trying it. I just hope I do not botch it up and waste money on a dash pad. I just keep hearing that remanufactered dash pads for this year model just dont compare to the original and I am afraid to drop $400-$700 on a new one. Especially if I can get an original and paint it for less than 300!

Another Vote here for SEM Color Coat.

If you want to see good pics of what it looks like finished check out MrSpeedfreaks resto thread. I have used it on armrest pads

If that's vinyl of the pad is in good condition (no huge cracks etc) then you shouldn't have any issues. When I did mine I just gave them a really good scrubbing with blue shop towels and denatured alcohol, a very light once-over with a scotchbrite pad, then a good wipedown with a tac cloth.

That much prep might be overkill, but I haven't had a single issue with colorcoat that way :icon_thumleft:

So here is the part that needs to be fixed. I am going to get the SEM vinyl paint and wait a while for the weather to get warm and PRAY I do not bleep it up. Overall, this is not bad at all for an original dash pad. I was so happy with how my dash turned out so far, I had to post a pic.

Hell yeah that's one good lookin' dash! And the pads don't look too bad at all. The colorcoat should go just fine, I wouldn't even be worried
