Not sure if my memory serves me right, but I think we have a few members in and around this area. Hope everything is well with these members and their Families! We'll be watching for any updates on the news.

Yeah kiwiGTX is from there, I hope all is well too...

Big one was over 7.0 on the eastern coastal region IIRC

I hope none of our people/members/mod was effected negatively...
Rocken' & rollen', shaken' to all beat hell I'll bet...

Crossing my fingers, hope for the best outcomes...

A gauge at Kaikoura, 181 km (112 miles) north of Christchurch New Zealand measured a wave of 2.5m (8ft 2 ins) in the early hours of the morning, according to Weatherwatch.co.nz.

At one point, the ministry of civil defence suggested tsunami waves as tall as five metres could hit the eastern coast.

But just after 08:00 local time (19:00 GMT), the warning was scaled back to a "marine and beach threat" with waves of just one metre along a small stretch of coast.

Hope Kiwi and family are OK

I have friends that live near Christchurch - haven't heard from them. God bless hope all is well.

We're all good here. Christchurch residents SHOULD be OK, as they are far enough south of the quake epicenter to have avoided the major damage. Top of the South Island and the bottom of the North Island were hardest hit. Our Capital city is a bit bashed around, and most residents were advised to take a day off work to stay out of harms way - most complied.
The damage I have seen so far of the major infrastructure is going to cost billions to repair, and likely several years to fully recover. It has also highlighted that there is really only one road through the entire South Island that is seriously suitable for freight and large volumes of traffic....me thinks that will be addressed also in time.

Thank you to all who have contacted and corresponded with folks out this way....very much appreciated.
