Pardon Our Interruption... I messaged the seller and told him RM21 was for a post car but this is a hardtop. I told him the trim tag is for a hardtop and asked him to explain. I also asked for a picture of the numbers on the radiator support. He said he would find out from the owner and get the picture. A week later nothing, I messaged him asking when would I get the answer and picture he replied " I do not like your attitude about it so I will not be dealing with you". I said do you or your friend think someone is going to pay $75,000 and not have it authenticated, and by the way the trim tag is for an automatic? I informed him there cannot be any bigger red flags than the things I pointed out. He then revised the listing adding the part about the VIN and Trim tag and support but no picture. Opinions on this car?

Not sure why the link doesn't work, go to ebay and enter 116782557920 in the search.

Oops.

I was just posting about this in another thread.

Yup, something dirty going on for sure.... Unfortunately somebody is probably gonna get burned... I've tried getting Ebay to get involved in the past, they won't, they get paid for selling stuff, not being the police...

The fact the seller posted about it in the ad after you pointed it out shows more integrity than the typical Ebay flipper so I actually gotta give him credit...

It's 68, so it could be as little "wrong" as a fender tag that doesn't go with the car.

If the VIN hasn't been "tampered with", it could still be legit.

If that were the case, I'd simply remove the tag.

Now if the stamping(s) match the tag.....

Luray, Virginia is a nice, scenic area

That RR has got it goin' on, that's for sure. According to the ad, it has a four speed and a slap stick........to go with that VIN swap on the dash.

The ripples in the VIN tell me it has been pried off of something at one point, and probably put on this car in order to title it.

Glad to see that the seller added info on the discrepancy. Maybe there is hope for used car salesmen yet.

The Dash Vin has a rm21 designation that matches the title, but the trim tag has an rm23 and matches core support number. We do not have any information on this discrepancy the car was purchased by the current owner this way.

The core support will just have the Sequence number on it. So if the core support sequence number matches the tag, those two are connected.

The only way on a 68 and earlier car to match the VIN to the Data Tag and body is to have the Build Sheet.

But the RM23 vs RM21 deal is telling us the VIN does not match the body.

Condition wise:

The quarters have aftermarket sound deadening applied. If the car was blasted in the trunk, it might have had original quarters. BUT looking at the condition of the paint around the spare tire, I would say the trunck was not blasted. So this there is a very high chance the quarter have been replaced. But the seller says this is a rust free body... doesn't seem so. Where are the pre-restoration pictures!!

The seats covers and door panels are some customer upholstery shop deal. Not repros from Legendary or PUI. Headliner was not put in by professional. lots of ripples and looks loose. Interior covered in thick armor all. Carpet is faded. Not recently installed. Kick panels chalked and armor-all or painted over.

The paint is awful lumpy around that fender tag. And why would the paint be flaking of that tag already?? Is it going to flake off the rest of the engine compartment soon??

This car is a total pass at $75K

Tough to find nice 383 4pd Road Runners. They were beat to death.
