Can I reuse my 1970 318 engine support brackets on my 1978 440 engine?

Are all 440 truck/moble home/passenger car engine’s mounting ears all in the same location?
When I swapped my passenger 318 for a truck 360 the driver side mounting ears that are cast on the block we’re not in the same place.

Yes. Big block ears are all the same, except for the hemi, of course. 340 and 360 are the same, but different from 273 and 318.

A beginners question to hijack the thread a little. I have a 69 Coronet that left the factory a 318. Its now a 383 Superbee clone but I've noticed a tiny crack in the bell housing of the trans (which was probably there when it was fitted). Over here (in the UK) sourcing parts is harder but I have located a 1975 440 engine with trans attached from a low mileage motorhome. Theoretically could I drop that in place of my 383 without any serious effort? Are performance parts interchangeable between the two engines? Reasoning is I could rebuild the 440 while still using the 383, swap em over when ready and then sell the 383 on? End result is I'm lighter in the wallet but with a more desirable car/engine combo?

A lot of parts are interchangable and yes it should drop right in

Thank you. This might be a very exciting (albeit expensive!) plan...

Back to Sonny's question.
You need BB mounting brackets. I have nice used ones if interested. 3rd of the price of Schumacher.
Yes the ears are the same on all big blocks.

So which ears are in the same place? The 440/318 or the 440/360?

None.
All 440's have the same ears.
Small blocks are different than big blocks.
318 has different ears on the drivers side than does 360.

Right, but I need to know which is the same - I have a 318 car getting a 440 so is the 440 mount and the 318 mount in the same place? If the 440 and 360 are the same then I need a special mount for the drivers side.

There are a number of variables here. First, the ears, or cast in place motor mount attaching points on the block are different on a small block vs a big block. 318 vs 440. Second, the motor mounts are different on a small block vs big block. Not sure on the passenger side mount being the same on a small vs big block. 360 vs 440. Third, K frames are apparently only different on 6 cyl vs V 8. So you should be OK there. I would take your small block motor mounts to an auto parts store and compare them 318 vs 440. You shouldn't need Schumacher mounts, they are mainly for installing a big block into an A Body. The only A Body big block factory mounts were produced (I suppose) for the 68 Dodge Dart GTS with a 383.

Parts stores do not carry the mounting brackets. They do carry the insulating rubber biscuit which is the same for all v-8's except Hemi.
When swapping from a 318 to a 440 you just need to change the mounting brackets

Schumacher mounts are great when doing a conversion. Putting a v-8 in a /6 k-frame or a Hemi in a v-8 K-frame. He is not doing a conversion. He is putting a v-8 in a v-8 k-frame. Difference is in the mounting brackets that bolt to the motor. SB versa BB.
