RE: TGE...all these years I thought what a kick *** "real story" movie that was.

But a few years ago it played on PBS/History/TCM , and they had one of those "history behind the film" specials, and they said none actually got away.

Hollywood just though it was a better story to stop before all the bad parts happened.

Kind of a bummer after all the "feel good" added to reality.

the movie shows that a lot were rounded up and executed including Mr Big

For prison camp movies, Stalag 17, with William Holden was one of the best. I loved the Sand Pebbles, great movie. The best are Bridge over the river Kwai, A Bridge too Far, The Longest Day, The Big Red One, Wake island, "Run Silent, Run deep", Das Boot, Destination Tokyo, The Bedford Incident, The Enemy Below, Midway, Von Ryans Express, Battle of Britain, Wing Commander, Strategic Air Command, Mig Alley, 30 seconds over Tokyo, Dawn Patrol, Memphis Belle, The Flying Leathernecks, Pork Chop Hill. I'm leaving out a few that I liked because I cant remember the names. They focused on P51's, P47's, and B17 crews of the war.

A little known but great movie is The Keep. It's about a group of German soldiers in Romania staying in a fortress designed to keep in the Devil. Jurgen Prochnow is the German commander until the SS take over.

I'll have to look for that one! Jurgen Prochnow also being the Captain in the classic, "Das Boot". In the directors cut of that movie, they spent an extra half-hour of that film on the scene of them being stranded on the bottom, and not knowing if they could raise the boat. So well done, you could feel the tension as the viewer!
