Finally Got a B body

Thanks...I just took a break and checked....and after running the numbers it appears to be a.....drum roll please......1971 400....

Bummer! :(

Thanks for the pics it made it much easier to locate.

On the contrary the 400 is a good platform to build on and I think the 71 is as good as it gets for those. Cut down a 440 crank and stuff it in with 440 rods and custom pistons. You will have a low deck 451. Or if you rebuild it as a 400 it's still good. And don't let anyone talk you out of the cast crank either. It's just fine for a street car under 500 HP.

Cool....I have alot to learn about the big blocks. Other than a couple minor repairs on a friend's 440 the only big blocks I have played with are Ford and Chevy.

"1971 400" sure sounds a lot like "451 stroker" to me :)

I'm so sorry... as the saying goes "Get real... get Mopar" ! By the way, the "B" stands for "BEST"... you got a great car to do ! And that 400 ain't no bummer, stroke it ! As mentioned earlier, you got a good block to start with !

I put this in another thread and thought it fit here better.

This afternoon I was able to check the car over and fire it up. The 400 is dumping at least 2 cylinders. I am not showing any oil pressure on aftermarket gauge and didn't appear to be getting oil in the top of the right valve cover. So a tear down and inspection rebuild is in order. And another bad thing, water got in through the carb and into the oil! ouch!
.
The body on the cars is pretty great! I less than 4 dimes sized holes in the rear lower trunk drop off. So this one will not need my metal working skills. The springs have been relocated and height are adjustable.

The interior door panels and kick panels are ok. The dash sucks and was spray bombed black, dash pad sucks. No headliner and bucket seats are not original. I am not a fan of the B & M shifter.

So the car is decent and I can't wait to rotis it and add paint!

Oh yeah; how do you guys work on these cars? Standing in front of it and I cant even reach the carb! This thing is longer than I thought it would be....lol

After the V10 came out, the first thing I thought was...bet one could fit easy in a 71-74 Charger.

Thats a nice looking Charger there, looks solid... I always have to record that Burn Notice show on TV for my ma, I don't really care for it much but ive always wondered what year that black Charger is on the show he drives, anyone know? looks like oneways. I had a 67, longggg time ago, my first MOPAR at 17 years old, so im not good at the newer ones.. Hope ya don't mind me asking here.. Ron

I am not sure of the year...I have only seen 2 episodes...I don't have sat or cable here..just an air antennae. Most of the show I watch are online.
Then one episode I saw the car was shot up pretty bad!

Black is the color I am leaning toward the most for this car!

I just did a quick search and it appears to be a '73. I see I can watch the show online at the USA network website.

Its hard to get away with NOT liking black, its a color that if car done and painted properly is great. Most think white is the hardest to keep clean but in all reality, black is the hardest. If you go with black your car has to be near perfect in the body department to do it correctly, black has a way of showing every single imperfection in the body there is, Im just telling you this as a suggestion to your choice and the fact that if you live in the country as i do its going to be a pain to keep it clean. Mud and the normal things is one thing going slowly getting to main road, but oh how i remember a car i had painted in black and washed and waxed and would sit it under a tree to just look at her all afternoon sitting around, but as far off the road we are, one car goes by, stirs the dust up and you just cant imagine the way it looked in a few hours. We have very little traffic here and most just a tractor hauling something but just one car will do it.. its humerus but true. I do wish you luck with your project. Ron and thanks for trying to answer my question on the burn notice thing.....

Yea the dust floats all over the place; luckily I am on the West side of the road and the dust goes mainly to the East.

I have painted a few cars black and they turned out great. Most of my paint jobs are Kandy......Kandy is another one that needs a good straight body.

I am excited to get this car into the shop and taken care of; the body is in such great shape, except I don't like the sub frame connectors and will cut them off and make some better ones.....some that look like they were factory!

I had to watch an episode of burn notice......and I have it going in the background now.
