Well I was helping a friend look for some parts for his van and came upon this very lonely, distinct machine.

71-72satellite wagon.jpg

There's not a lot left, but a peek inside found me a radio for my 71 satellite. The knobs work and so do the push buttons. I just want to know the best way to go from here.

1. How do I clean it with out damage?
2. Should I open it up to lube it or anything?
3.Are there any how to's so that I can repair my original?

Thanks for the assistance

Short of diagnosing diodes, transistors and circuits, I'd unscrew the casing and just blow out the dust and then liberally spray electrical contact cleaner/lube into just about everything. In Langley, I get stuff like this at SMI http://www.smi-elec.com/super-contact-cleaner-125g-45-oz-aerosol?keyword=cleaner&model=1

Corrosion can lead to wires coming apart or solder joints failing, and just general loss of conductivity in sliding contacts and plugs. Often you can just eyeball something because it's obvious and the fix is straight forward. How long was the radio exposed to the elements like that? The wagon looks like it was rolled a few times down a hill.

Actually, I was able to get it working. Just cleaned up the contacts. I would like to rebuild the original thou. I will be taking it apart to see what the problem is.
