Clear UPS packages yourself. Brokerage with USPS/Canada Post are $5.00 for anything over $20. UPS is some insane amount which I don't fully understand, and do not care anymore. First, is there a customs office and UPS depot close to you?

When I get a UPS package sent to me. I phone in the tracking and tell them I am clearing it myself. The depot phones when the paperwork is ready. I pick up a yellow sheet from them (In Winnipeg, its the same building as UPS ground depot). I drive 2 mins to the Canada Customs office which is in a industrial area close to the airport, its just a small office in a strip mall type place. I give them the sheet, they charge me the GST/PST which I would have paid regardless of how it was shipped. They stamp it, It is now cleared.

Go back to UPS, hand them the sheet, they give you the package.

That is what your $55 paid for. It is very bizarre.

I learned the clear myself thing from a UPS operator when I used to race RC cars, I was getting packages all the time and I was getting smoked. She was nice and gave me this inside info.

thanx muswagon; i knew there had to be a better system. 2 or 3 yrs. ago i had a big project going on a 70 chevelle and needed a lot of stuff so i rented a box at an ups
store just across the border. there was a lot of body parts and big stuff. on most buys you get free shipping in lower 48. took my enclosed trailer p/u'd and cleared myself at border. saved a ton.
but this one time little stuff is insane. thanx for the insight.

Being from Winnipeg and I was in the delivery buisiness I wish I knew about that....coulda saved myself some charges in the past. But as for Ontario unless your living in the city the package is flown to- UPS is going to get you...

They sure make it tough to order from the US with all these extra charges...

I feel for you guys, makes buying stuff for yours cars, etc., more expensive than it should be.

I have sold some things on Ebay and shipping to Canada via UPS is way expensive. USPS is still costly but much less expensive (and much slower).

Yup, USPS is the only way to go when shipping to Canada.

u p s

got a big part coming in via truck freight, complete rear end assembly and had to arrange my own brokerage, through a guy here in town, belleville. very reasonable.
i told him about my experience with u p s and my hotchkis part. he is sending me a cover sheet for my next experience with ups and he will do the brokerage.
where ups charged 54.00 brokerage costs he would of been 17.00.
IT IS A START;

Whenever I buy from U.S. suppliers I insist that they send the items by U.S. Post. If they say they only send by courier, I tell them I won't be ordering then and explain about being "raped" by couriers for customs' clearing. Often they will mail it to me when I say that. The postal service charges a $5.00 flat rate... very reasonable.

Try restoring a B body in Australia!

New fuel tanks are $570, basically everything is twice or three times the price!

Luckily, we had a range of cars, Valiants, that were made here that fit B bodies but there are a lot of gaps in the list of shared parts, and don't get me started on shipping, I can send a 1kg parcel to the US and it will cost me $30 (that includes the US instigated $9 security Tax, only country in the world that charges it btw) but to have that same box sent to me from the US would cost me $40+.
