I'm surprised large organized drug dealers aren't donating money to all levels of schools to ensure they stay in business too. I could never understand why people would give money to the NRA in the form of memberships anyway, it's not like the constitution's going to change any too soon.

" DIRTY NRA MONEY" Who the **** are these holier then thou a$$holes anyway. Without the NRA we all could become slaves of the state. GOOD for those NRA members to step up and do what they wouldn't let the NRA to do.

If you really want to understand, you might want to do some research on what the NRA actually does besides lobby congress to protect our 2nd Amendment rights. When you see all the safety programs, law enforcement training, pistol and rifle shoots, and particularly the 'Eddie The Eagle' training program for school age children, you'll see where the money goes. The news always touts the millions that the NRA spends on lobbying congress, but it's nothing compared to the amount big pharma and the military industrial corporations spend.

A local school board turns down "DIRTY NRA MONEY "grant for the schools rifle team.
An "angered" group of local businessmen stepped up and donated more than what was needed - within hours.
There are still some good people in the Poconos!!
I will personally visit and support as many of those small businesses as I can.
As for those on the school board- go back to the city.
Another reason to love Pa.! Yrs ago by Allentown a zoning issue came up involving a shooting range & a next door nursing home- the nursing home lost!!

One would have to understand a few points surrounding this article:
  • The "local political climate", be it as it may. This area has seen a large influx of post 911 residents who openly fled NYC to abode in the safe haven mountains of the Poconos. Since then there has been a creeping takeover of local municipalities, school boards, and small town governments all needing to "fix" whats wrong. Ask any "native" resident, and they will tell you their quality of life has not gone up. The only thing that has risen is crime, drug use, and property taxes.
  • The NRA grant program is intended for the instruction, knowledge, and safe use of firearms. Nothing more, nothing less. The Political rant by a board member of " NRA DIRTY MONEY", is just that also. I have to wonder how the next school board elections will go?
  • Don't mess with real Pa residents on gun control issues, you will lose.
  • Don't poke the sleeping bear, they get testy. And we're not a bunch of soccer Moms, we don't do bake sales.

Contributing to a school shooting team is pretty mild and shouldn't have drawn this fire, but it looks like the policies of the NRA are creating a generation of voters who are against some of the policies. Maybe all, and may make this a voter issue, just like other firebrand issues, including lumping everything with firearms to the 2nd amendment. If you like your gun, you members may want to voice moderation in what the NRA says and does.

The school board turned down NRA money that would support a rifle shooting team? Early April fool joke right?

My entire family has either lived, still live or maintained seasonal homes in the Poconos. This and others we know have done the same. The Poconos in some parts have become entitlement communities thanks to policy's of the state. Drug use is on the rise as well as petty crime. To insinuate that crime, drug use has increased because of who moved up there is not entirely true. As i said look no farther then PA residents on public assistance placed up there to live. Also a element of locals are no bargain either.
