front hub removal

....in order to remove the hub from the front brake drum, do i need to remove all the lug studs and heat it to get it off of there ?

I think this article covers it the best although it is written for the tapered axle rear hub the principals are the same for any swedged hub/drum combo.

Yup. Even though that's for the tapered rear axle, the same procedure is for the front with swedeged on drums. You want to cut the studs off as CLOSE to the drum as possible. Also, you may even need to take a hammer and chisel and knock the swedged areas in even more. Then drill a hole through the center of each one so that they can collapse in on themselves as you drive them out. Failure to do all of that will probably result in damage to the hub itself and make the holes too big for replacement studs. The good thing is, on the front it's easy to remove the whole thing so you can get to it easily and use a drill press for good straight holes.

I just did the GTX and took the hub with the drum off,then pressed the hub from the drum.

Yup, sometimes though that will distort the drum. It all depends on how bad the lug nuts were swedged. With my black cloud, all of them I'ever tried to do like that slap boogered up the drum....but it's certainly worth a shot.

Those directions say to use a swedge cutter. I use a 1/2" hole saw with out the pilot bit, works great. Just did it to a 67 Belvy wagon a couple of months ago. All you do is cut into the drum and everything falls apart. To put it back together, some leave loose. I chose to tack weld the studs and drum. Just be careful not to make the tacks too big so the interfere with the rim.
