Hi, my fuel gauge on my 74 Plymouth Satellite shows empty, I traced the wire back from the tank and at the connection that sits behind the kick panel I put a test light on it and the gauge works ( shows half tank) but the test light pulses any ideas on what the problem is, thanks.

Did you ground the wire that goes to sending unit? When you ground it the gauge should read full.

I just took the pickup out of my 72 because the gauge was working fine, then read empty all the time. I found the brass float had a tiny hole and it filled with fuel and therefore would sink instead of float. Replaced it and works fine now.

Come to think of it, you didn't say if there was any gas in the tank.

Curious why not
The gauge needs to function between 73.0 ohms empty plus or minus 12 ohms and 9.6 ohms full plus or minus 1 ohm.
A direct ground exceeds the spec for the gauge when full and will only prove the gauge can be pegged not that it works correctly.

Thanks guys will go back to the tank and check the ground first and go from there, and sorry yes it has gas in it.

Hi John,
How did you make out with your fuel gauge?
