Hello Again;
I need some help/advice if at all possible. I posted a while ago about a small gasoline drip on my 1966 Coronet 440. The rubber grommet on the tank pulled off which resulted in a small but steady gasoline drip, drip drip. Today I started tackling the issue with new clamps and a new tank grommet.
I've learned that trying to syphon gas out of that tank is a giant pain. I pulled 10 gallons out and finally got it to the point where I was able to pull the filler pipe out of the tank without a flood. I managed to get the new grommet installed and now I need to get that filler pipe back in place without disrupting the grommet. I've tried greasing the pipe and the grommet but the angle and access does not lend itself to an easy install. The pipe wants to go in on an angle which will pull the grommet out of place.
I'm looking for some thoughts on how to get this back together without too much grief. I might be able to remove the left tail pipe or even lower the tank (which I rather not do)... Any advice or suggestions are welcome!
Thanks,
Joel
