Fuel Tank J-bolts ripped out

Soooo... I knew the trunk pan was rusted out. I knew the rear frame rails had surface rust, but didn't find any holes or weak spots. BUT... When I went to remove the fuel tank by taking the J-bolt nuts off they BOTH ripped out of the braces.

Best way to fix? Cut out and make my own patch piece and weld it in? What gauge metal?

Yeah, weld metal back in. 18-20ga.
