Bought my '68 Charger RT 440 back in 1985. Due to some unfortunate circumstances, the last it was started was in 1992, just before our first daughter was born. Been pushing it out of the garage every spring for a wash and an occasional wax for the past dozen or so years. Finally getting back to it and over the past couple of weekends checked all the mechanicals to make sure it was safe to try to get it to fire. Tonight, with everything having been checked out good and with fresh oil, gas lines pulled and dumping some gas down the carb, it fired up on the 3rd try. Unfortunately, as expected, the old Carter is a bit messed up to say the least. Trying to locate some resources for rebuilding hints and suggestions, I came upon FBBO and found a few solid threads on Carters (along with a lot of car pics to drool over).

Epic site; registered instantly.

Welcome from NM. Its never too late to get started on your project. You came to the right site. There is alot of knowledge and inspiration on here. A resource like no other for all things Mopar. Nice looking car too, by the way.

Welcome! That car has a lucky owner!
Assuming that's the original carter AVS, they are actually fairly simple to work on and carb kits are cheap .
Open her up and ask some questions!

Welcome. Make sure to get all the old nasty fuel out and blow out the lines, change filter and then put your rebuilt carb on, otherwise it'll just muck it up again. Luckily there is a carb shop near me in Dayton and the guy made my AVS work like new. I start the car every few weeks to keep it fresh.
