this is the first time rebuilding a big block. do I use locktite on any of the bolts? head ,intake , waterpump? and I use pipe sealer on the exhaust manifold studs correct. just dont want to screw anything up! any help would be great! by the way its a 383

You'll use anti-seize on the head bolts, thread sealer on the header bolts. So far that is as far as I am with my build...actually I don't have the headers yet but I just read ahead in my book. Nothing has told me otherwise to put any kind of lock tite or anything on any bolts.

I'm sure you know this but I thought I'd mention it since it was such an important bullet in my book and I'm on the subject of anti-seize. Make sure you prep the harmonic balancer correctly ie. sand any rust using 400 grit emery cloth inside harmonic balancer bore, put anti-seize inside the bore, oil around the outside of the bore and oil all around the lip of the timing chain cover seal. If you neglect to oil the seal it will tear apart.

You should chase all head bolt and main cab threads with a tap. While you're at it I'd do every hole. Use a cordless drill or you'll be there all day, but be careful to not break a tap! Oil on the threads and under the head of the bolt. Pipe dope on exhaust studs is good. Loc tite on the flywheel or flex plate to crank and pressure plate or converter. Like it says above, oil or grease the timing cover seal.
