Maybe I'm getting into my Old Fart years, but despite the horsepower and dependability of the newer technology, I'll take old iron any day. 700 ponies are great, but in the real world I deal with pot holes, Amish buggies, cops and kids on cell phones who aren't paying attention... so I don't need to do 160.
Plus I like the rumble and smell of the old iron. Nothing catches my ear like a rumbling muscle car or a radial airplane engine - old school!
Can the Hellcat waste me on the strip or on the interstate? Oh heck yeah!... but there's nothing on this earth cooler than a late 60's Mopar.

And it's true that 55-80mph passing speed is world's apart on the 2 cars.

Both things can be true.

I will say the hellcat does get a lot of attention in it's own right. There aren't very many around here that are regularly driven out in the wild, so people do come up and ask about it.

Slug is subjective.
Look at the years, miles and smiles you get from your early Charger.
Next do you think for a minute that if you drove the new Charger the way people drove there muscle cars it would be around 50 years from now. I don't think so. And last but not least anyone can walk into a dealership and get a new muscle car that looks just like everyone else's muscle car.
In my opinion the 60-70 muscle cars where all different from Chrysler you could get any color, even if you want a Ford or GM color the factory would make it happen. You could get any engine & transmission you want so if you just want to look cool a 225 4speed Challenger could be ordered. ( I worked on one of those in the late 70's by the way. It was the Sublime green A/C, power steering, power brakes, console.)
Yes modern technology makes new cars quicker and they do handle and ride better. But just remember there is a seat for every *** and an *** for every seat.

I guarantee the HC could be around in 50 years if the same amount of inflation adjusted dollars were spent on it as the 68!!!
The 68 was spent and used up.
And I ordered the HC the way I wanted it with a red gut to match my coronets original scheme.
Best of all the worlds.
And I'm envious of the 600/650 493" going into my brother's 70 rt/se Charger.

Yes but will Fiat still be make parts for them in 15 years and will the aftermarket pickup the slack on parts ?
I do like the HC's my son has a 17 and It is a blast to drive. but he also has the same 67 Barracuda he drove in high school. Only now instead of a 273 4bbl it has a 426 small block with a cross ram with two sniper fuel injection units on it. We still need to work out a couple of things but he is looking to be in the high ten's on pump gas.

You could just solve the problem like chrysler did with the 6.2, put a blower on it.

To be fair 'my' 440 is a sum of it's parts and those parts made sense when it was my dad's as performance wasn't as important to him.
The 383 in my fury is turbocharged, the 6.2 supercharged, the 440 eventually will be stroked. Best of all worlds to have ICE's of different flavors

I was just guna say...time to put a huffer and nitrous in the Charger
