Granny was cool..

I don't think my Grammie/Marie (dad's mom born 1910) was ever that hot,
she was an attractive young woman
but she was a product of the, speak easy's (during probation) Berkeley Ca.
floppers, dancers in silk dresses, frills, showed all of her calves & ankles
that was flirtatious back then...
&
what IIRC she said;
"they called, the mod crowd"
She always went with my very proper Granddad Elmer/Whitey (dad's dad born 1906),
he dressed in a black suit/slacks, white shirt, black fedora hat, black & white oxford shoes
always unless he was at home...
Then in his tennis togs/white shorts
that's why he was called Whitey, he wore them a lot,
very good tennis player I was told in the late 1920's, almost went pro (1928-29)

it's strange to think of her as a young attractive woman, let alone a flooper type

they drove Buick's or Olds almost exclusively,
Shell oil Executive lease (more or less luxury) cars

I did have a step grandmother Evelin, (stepmothers' mom)
she was a lead foot, prior owned Buick's many LeSabre's
owned a nice gold Porsche 928 S in 1978, after her husband died, she let loose
lived life to the fullest, she was a leadfooted 80-100mph on the open hi-way...
loved to drive, loved to travel...
She was never hot, (not that I knew of) she was sort of homely,
but had a cool car, finally...

It mostly skipped a generation in my family, wasn't the grandparents

My Stepdad Bob's parents always had Ramblers, & not any hot rods/muscle cars or cool versions
usually like a Rambler American 4 dr sedan, straight 6, 3 on the tree...
Grandma Josephene, his mom didn't even drive...

My stepdad (their son Bob) was a hotrodder from the get-go, since 1949
he had Indians, 53 F100 transplanted a hopped up 352 w/428 heads & intake,
very cool fast truck
a 35 Ford PU w/401 2x4bbl Buick hotrod, bronze gold colored
(man I loved them 2 trucks)
& various GTOs from 64-71 or 1st gen. 400 Firebirds ram Air cars,
then various 60's 390 Galaxies & Fairlanes

My mom had some cool cars, a 57 Savoy 2 dr wagon
I was brought home from the hospital in
The best was a special ordered new when I was 8
Nov. 1967 at SF Chrysler Plymouth
a 1968 Sport Satellite 383 4bbl 4 speed, GG1 & white/top interior bucket seat car
her 1st 'ever new car'
dad built her a 57 DelRio 2 dr Ranch Wagon with a hopped up 352FE
then she drove Bob's old retired 64 GTO SS/H
until dad bought her the Sport Satellite, she could row them gears
'all were 4 speeds', my mom was a lil' hotrod momma...

Our grandkids granny is currently cool!

My wife standing by my car when we were dating in 1973/74 time frame and I was in the US Navy ( red base sticker on front bumper). We have 15 grandchildren now. She liked to borrow my car when we were dating and I had duty on ship. She drove her dad's VW Beetle or the family station wagon back then, so driving my car was something she looked forward to. Note the bell bottom pants. She was (is) cool.
