Hello..

I'm looking at a 1968 GTX. I was wondering if anyone knows if the 68 GTX came with an option for a 22 inch wide radiator.
Thanks.

You should check the vin and the radiator support and the trunk lip for matching numbers first to see if they all match. I believe since the GTX's were higher optioned , with 440's mostly they had the 26 in radiator.Actually on the 68 the numbers on the support and trunk lip should be the order number of the car, not the vin. Also , the radiator support could have been changed at some point, but you will know that when you check the numbers. Hope that helps. Also you should post over at the welcome wagon as a new member.

O.K I had to look this up. If the radiator # 2898045 is a 22" and the Galen Govier book says it was put in some 383,440 engines with Auto trans. and heater. Does not say models but engine size only. You would have to check the broadcast sheet. #2898047, and 2898048 are 26" radiator numbers. 26 " radiators came in some year 68 383,426,and 440 engines. It also shows 26" on 440 but with Auto A/C, Manual with heater and Auto with heater. So the book says yes to engine sizes not models. This is confusing so The broadcast sheet should say. I may have repeated some of this for the print is small in that Galen Govier book. Sorry.

Kev,

the 22" radiator was standard with the automatic and 3.23 gears. Cars with a Hemi, A/C, a four speed, or the trailer towing option would recieve a 26" radiator.

I know of one that has a 22" wide radiator. Don't know if it came that way, or the support was changed. 440 automatic.

I know you're asking about a '68 but I am restoring a '69 GTX that has never been cut apart (until I got a hold of it), or wrecked and it has a 22 inch radiator support. Since the car had already been disassembled at the time of purchase, the owner located another complete '69 GTX that was hammered in the rear. This car also has a 22 inch radiator support.

Wouldn't the opening be for a 22" rad? I don't know 68's that well but in 69 the opening will tell you what it came with,

My '68 Bee had a 22". Even with all the heavy-duty stuff put on it. I'd have to go with Dave5237..
