Has anyone removed a vinyl soft top to create a hardtop 68-70 Charger?

I've been searching religiously the past 6 months for a black 1968 Charger hardtop. It has been very difficult to find one in decent condition at a good price. I'm considering the possibility of purchasing a nonblack or even a vinyl roof Charger and having it painted to my specifications. Does anyone have experience with removing the vinyl top and converting it into a hard top? I would expect to see some level of gunk and rust but do you think this is too large of a gamble? Any insight would be appreciated.

Easy to remove.......Odds are you will find some rust/corrosion underneath the vinyl. They are notorious for that. You'd be better off finding a non vinyl top car and painting it black. Lot less likely to have any surprises with the roof.
