I have a 1973 charger that needs the heater core and blower motor replaced. Generally speaking I believe these are royal pains but not sure on this car. So... question 1, how painful is it and question 2 is it possible to replace the whole center console inclusive of both of these items or is that just crazy talk? Thanks for any assistance.

What does the center console have to do with the blower motor and heater core? Does the car have A/C or no? The blower is external with A/C but internal without.

How much of a PITA it is depends on how much you like standing on your head.

Sorry I should have been more specific. The car originally came with an air conditioner. I removed the blower and tested it and it seems to be fine. I now have to run down the wiring and see where the problem is there. The two hoses going into the firewall for the heating are there but the previous owner put a valve on the inlet which leads me to believe the heater core leaks. My new and improved question is how does one go about replacing that? I see two separate units under the dash, one on the passenger side and one in the center. I am unsure of how or which to remove to replace the core.

Also, on a side note, I will be doing some fun filled wire chasing but at the moment all the lights work well until one turns on the head lights. The headlights then work but I lose the tail lights inclusive of turn signals etc. Any recommendation on where to start for that?

Thanks again for all the help.

You have a bad headlight switch [been there done that]. Before you take out the heater core put the proper valve on the car. If the core leaked it would still leak with just one hose shut off. Old car air in Tampa Fl has the right valve. Its only been available a few years now log on to oldcarair.com

If you're "missing" speeds on your blower motor, then I'd check the "resistor" pack that controls the speed. It's a brown rectangle with coils on the back that mounts to the heater box.

WARNING......these coils get really hot REALLY fast when working properly. Yes, they can (and WILL) set fire to all those dead leaves in your heaterbox
