70 Road Runner. My heater core leaks & I will replace it. Can I remove it by just removing the metal cover on the box ( inside the passenger compartment ) , or do I have to remove the entire box ? Thanks for your help, Rocket

the whole heater box will have to come out. it is not that bad of a job. if you can cap the heater core before you remove it, it will keep things a lot happier in the interior.

I would also suggest you seal up everything you can while you have it apart....some window adhesive foam or RTV. You can do the whole job in a day & yes, the whole box comes out.

Thanks. MAC, you were right. Not a bad job. You & PurpleBeeper were also right about " While I'm in There ". I'm a big believer in replacing everything rather than going back next year to do it again. All the foam & rubber seals/gaskets were dry rotted. Bought the seal kit , big rubber donut and new heater core from Year One & will clean-up everything. This Fall was the first time to use the heater. First saw the windshield fog-over, then smelled anti freeze. So I wasn't surprised when I removed the box & found a mess of pine needles ( mice ? ), soggy seals, and surface rust. This is when I'm happy that I did the job right before it got worse.
Thanks for all your help.
